More Than Half a Million Americans Suffer With Constant Tiredness
Many of us lead busy lives – juggling commitments between work, home, family and friends. We struggle to make time to relax with a bit of much needed ‘me’ time. Even when we do get the chance to relax and enjoy some extra sleep, we still feel tired. A recent survey showed that over 500,000 Americans experience constant tiredness.
Constant tiredness is defined as a feeling of extreme fatigue, sluggishness and weakness beyond normal fatigue. There are many factors which can cause this. One of the most obvious may be that you are not getting enough sleep. If you consistently deprive yourself of sleep, you will suffer the consequences.
There are steps you can take to overcome lethargy and tiredness. First you need to find out if you have a medical problem. Have a physical exam and check if you have any conditions such as anaemia, arthritis, diabetes, or depression.
If medical problems are ruled out, your tiredness may be caused by not exercising. You must have your own exercise schedule. Walk to the drugstore instead of driving, do some gardening or jump on a mini trampoline. Improving your circulation will release feel-good chemicals.
You will feel calm and relaxed after exercise. Exercise reduces stress and makes you feel alive. And it definitely will improve your energy levels. Exercise is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle.
Eating junk food can also lead to tiredness. Foods containing high amounts of sugar give you a quick energy boost, but they soon make you feel tired. Make sure you are getting enough iron in your diet. It is advisable for women to take iron supplements.
Eat as much unprocessed food as possible. Stick to fresh vegetables and fruit, lean chicken and fish. Add some almonds or hazelnuts to your daily diet. Eat wholegrain bread and bran cereal.
